Learning through art 2014

06.06.2014 - 08.31.2014

New educational space

This exhibition presents a selection of the works by 115 children aged 6 to 12, participants in the 2013–14 Learning Through Art educational program. Taught by artists Naia del Castillo, Ibon Garagarza, Maider López, Manu Muniategiandikoetxea, Ainhoa Ortells, and Jorge Rubio, the program supplements the primary school curriculum by using art as a learning tool.

Teachers identify educational goals and skills to study in the classroom with artists and museum education staff in order to design a series of workshops that meet these objectives. Every program is unique and specifically designed to meet the needs of each group.

Discussing art and participating in the creative process permits schoolchildren to explore curricular subjects in a more imaginative and personal way.

Art disciplines and techniques, such as photography, painting, sculpture, video, and performance become instruments to discover, explore and grasp an understanding of reality, placing emphasis on the value of individual expression and creative freedom.

“In all the groups, things that were not planned at the outset often surprise us, which leads the work process toward a result that I always think is better.”
